5 – Go for a Walk

I know wandering is a part of Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson with Lewy Body Dementia, but walking is a very positive exercise.

Not only is it good for releasing tension, but the health benefit for seniors is significant.  A Harvard Medical School Report advises 150 minutes of walking a week.  The NIH even provides a toolkit for Older Adults.

From my own experience, I find myself more relaxed.  I listen to audio books, music or walk with neighbors.  Patsy is a great social companion – she likes everyone, and everyone is learning her name.

It is important to establish a walking routine as early as possible in the person’s diagnosis.

Always take precautions, make sure you have a cell phone that has its “Location Service” turned on, so your caregiver can track you.
